Margaritas tacos and tequila, Chida is the new bar in Leeds you need to know about

Mexico has arrived in Leeds! Introducing Chida Cantina, a vibrant bar where you can eat tacos and sup margaritas into the early hours.

Despite the food being so good, if we had to put a label on Chida, we’d call it a cocktail bar, because Chida has a menu of tried and tested cocktails, each of which has been put to a panel of local drinkers, including Brand Yorkshire's Mona & Richard, to make sure it gets their ‘seal of approval’. Robert Jupp, aka drinks industry legend Skippy, is heading up the drinks department, and his ‘keep it simple’ ethos means you’ll be enjoying beautifully crafted, stripped back drinks that really pop.

What makes Chida stand out is the fact that they’re doing something a little different. They’ve tried to produce a menu that pays homage to the classics (there’s a traditional margarita, of course), but they’ve also pushed themselves to create something new – which is why you’ll find two alternative margaritas on the menu too, including a frozen margarita, think adult slushies, perfect for these summer months. They've had Yorkshire rhubarb & mango and this week it's watermelon.

Chida's passion is the Mexican spirits of tequila and mezcal. Most of us have had a bad tequila experience in our youth, but please don't let that put you off, their mantra is "sip it don't shoot it"! They sell the good stuff and they have a program of masterclasses with brand ambassadors if you want to learn more about it.

It's definitely not all about tequila though. Their house spirits are what can only be described as ‘the good stuff’ – think Tanqueray gin, Ketel One vodka and Plantation Three Star rum. They have an amazing gin cocktail called L.S.D, with its mix of Tanqueray gin, Briottet raspberry liqueur, homemade ‘flower syrup’ with lavender, rose and hibiscus shaken with lemon juice and egg white. Divine. You have to try it.

Chida has a small but creative menu of Mexican street food. It's some of the most authentic in the UK. It’s easy to underestimate tacos, but at Chida Cantina, they’ve elevated them, with interesting toppings and well-balanced combinations. You’ve got pork belly, caramelized pineapple and xi ni pek (Mayan salsa), alongside slow cooked ancho beef cheek, charred sweetcorn and spring onion crema. It’s not all meaty either, one of their best sellers is vegetarian– roasted cauliflower, pequin chilli sweet potato, chipotle mayo and sesame seeds.

Did you know Taco Tuesday is a thing? Chida have introduced it to Leeds and have a great offer whereby if you order any two of their legendary margaritas you receive a free taco plate. Take some friends and have some fun!

Chida is very coeliac friendly with 95% of the menu being corn based so naturally gluten free. They even have a Mexican gluten free beer, Ocho Reales,

Long day at the office? Want to unwind after work? Chida is just the place as they have a great after work promotion on for the summer, where you can sit inside or out with a bucket of 6 coronas for £20 or £15 for a bottle of prosecco. (Tues - Fri)

One of Chida's draught beers is Estrella Indedit, they were the first bar in the world to pour this on draught! Created by legendry chef Ferran Adrià of El Bulli fame to accompany & compliment Mexican food.
